About

I am a Teacher/Librarian and Tech Lead Teacher at a K-5 elementary school of 300 students in Albemarle County, Virginia.

I was a leg-puppet in the Stan Winston Parade of the Moving Creatures at UVA!

I was a leg-puppet in the Stan Winston Parade of the Moving Creatures at UVA! I have sunglasses on, Mr. Jefferson doesn’t.

I’ve been teaching for 11 years and came to teaching through the Alternative Certification path as a career switcher. When we lived in Houston, I worked at Bellaire City Library and Meyer Branch of Houston Public Library. It would be easier to list the things I’m NOT interested in, than to list my interests.

I love being a school librarian because I teach things that really matter to me, and learn from and with some wonderful students. I’m a friend of art teachers and I also run the Cheap and Cheerful Librarian Tips Pinterest board for School Library Journal.

    Hi, Melissa,
This is Jennifer Porter. I did my student teaching with you about 7 years ago. I was just reading an article about Rassberry Pi and it quoted you! How are you? I’m at Louisa County high school this year after doing ES for 6 years. Its a big change but lots of fun! We are hoping to create a makerspace in the new high school to open next year. Hope all is well!
